How it works
From one real observation to a task your team can ship
AI Search Console follows a simple loop: scan, observe, compare, act. Every recommendation traces back to something you can check yourself, so nobody is asked to trust a mystery score.
Your website
Scan
Start by crawling your own site. The scan reads what each page actually says and how it is structured: headings, page titles, descriptions and the on-page signals that help both search engines and AI systems understand content.
- You bring
- A website address
- You get
- A page-by-page picture of structure and clarity issues
Practical tip Fix obvious structural problems first. An AI system cannot describe a service your site never clearly states.
AI answers
Observe
Write down the questions your customers really ask, then capture how ChatGPT answers them. Each snapshot is saved so you can revisit the same prompt later and see whether the description of your brand changes.
- You bring
- Prompts your customers would type
- You get
- Saved ChatGPT snapshots you can compare over time
Practical tip Use the customer’s wording, not your internal product names.
Competitors and conversations
Compare
When competitors are cited, compare their pages with yours to see where their coverage is stronger. Look for public discussions on Reddit and related Wikipedia articles, and, if you are technical, measure how closely a page matches a query with cosine similarity.
- You bring
- Competitor sites, topics and queries
- You get
- Specific gaps with the evidence behind them
Practical tip A gap is only worth acting on if a real customer would care about the missing information.
Tasks your team can ship
Act
Recommendations become concrete tasks: a section to add, a question to answer, a fact to make consistent. Hand them to a writer or developer, mark them complete and keep a record per client.
- You bring
- Findings from the first three steps
- You get
- A prioritised task list and a history of completed work
Practical tip After publishing, re-run the same snapshot later. Changes in AI answers can take time and are never guaranteed.
A worked example
One question, followed through the loop
An illustrative example, not customer data. A bakery in Leeds wants to be described accurately when people ask about gluten-free wedding cakes.
“Which bakeries in Leeds offer gluten-free wedding cakes?” The snapshot names two competitors. The bakery is not mentioned.
The /wedding-cakes page never says the word gluten-free, and the delivery area is buried in an image.
Both cited competitors have a short section answering the question directly, with ingredients and lead times.
Task for the writer: add a clearly headed section answering “Do you make gluten-free wedding cakes?” with ingredients, lead time and delivery area as text.
What it does not do
Honest about the limits
- It does not publish changes to your website. Your team stays in control of what goes live.
- It does not guarantee that an AI system will mention you. Providers decide that, and answers vary.
- It does not invent a single visibility number to chase. It shows the evidence behind each recommendation.
- It does not ask you to post on Reddit or edit Wikipedia about yourself. Read how those tools are meant to be used.
